Base-of-skull chondrosarcomas are similar to chordomas yet technically distinct entities and often occur in very young patients. While R0 resections are curative, it’s easy to see how this could get morbid fast. A look back at the largest cohort of its kind demonstrates proton therapy (median RBE 70 Gy) to gross disease for pediatric patients ages 6-22 results in excellent disease control with 88% alive without progression at 10 years. When excluding the even rarer bad actor of mesenchymal histology (n=6), 89% were alive without disease at 20 years. | Ioakeim-Ioannidou, Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys 2024
