Is anyone out there not some level of anxious when about to go under the knife? Today we bring you, not tumor treating fields, but anxiety treating fields coined transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), “a noninvasive brain stimulation modality that alters cortical excitability via weak, direct currents between two electrodes placed on the scalp.” This Chinese randomized trial reports those receiving real (n=98) versus sham (n=98) tDCS on the afternoon prior and morning of colorectal cancer surgery had significantly lower rates of perioperative anxiety (39% v 70%) and post-op delirium (8% v 26%) as well as better sleep quality and pain control. | Li, JAMA Netw Open 2024
