This huge Korean cohort study investigated whether breast cancer recurrence patterns differ based on subtype. They found HER2+ breast cancers were more likely to recur in the breast (HR 2.95) while triple-negative ones were more likely to recur regionally (HR 2.95), and these discrepancies were most pronounced among women younger than 40. As expected, HER2+ and triple-negative subtypes had recurrences peak within a year from surgery while hormone receptor positive subtypes saw slow gradual recurrences that never peaked. | Cheun, JAMA Surg 2023
