Partially ablative radiation therapy (PABR) is a way of delivering palliative treatment where the central portion of a tumor volume receives ablative doses of radiation while the periphery adjacent to critical structures receives a standard palliative dose. Bulky sarcomas are a tumor type particularly amenable to such a technique as they are often composed entirely of solid tumor and reducing their volume might provide a significant palliative benefit. This retrospective study compared outcomes between 30 patients who received PABR and 27 patients who received standard palliative radiation for STS. Most patients in the PABR group received 20 Gy in 5 fractions to the tumor periphery and 50 Gy to the center (90%) while the most common standard regimen was 30 Gy in 10 fractions.
