Do PSMA PET and MRI identify similar extents of disease for localized prostate cancer? A recent phase 2 study of both modalities performed prior to prostatectomy found that PSMA PET was superior to MRI in correctly identifying the dominant nodule, stage, laterality, and ECE. This study came to a slightly different conclusion. They compared imaging findings to biopsy findings in 88 patients with intermediate or high risk prostate cancer who had both imaging modalities performed prior to radiation. They defined the dominant lesion based on the sextant of the prostate with the highest percentage of core involvement. MRI was more sensitive for intermediate risk disease and PET was more sensitive for high risk. MRI also had better specificity. | Belliveau, Pract Radiat Oncol 2025
