RTOG 0022 was a single-arm prospective trial accruing between 2001-2005 (n=67) that established the ability of intensity modulated radiation (IMRT) for early-stage oropharyngeal cancer to achieve favorable rates of acute xerostomia and locoregional control when compared to historic standards. This final report demonstrates rates of xerostomia continued to drop through year 5 down to 12.5%. Only three additional local failures occurred following the originally reported two-year rate of 9% making a second primary more likely to occur after that time point. | Garden, Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys 2023
