Mepitel film has been shown to reduce skin toxicity in patients receiving post-mastectomy radiation. StrataXRT is a wound care product that forms a thin film when applied to the skin. In this trial, 40 patients receiving PMRT applied StrataXRT film to half the treated chest wall and Mepitel film to the other half. Patients were randomized to place Mepitel medially and StrataXRT laterally or vice versa. The time weighted average of radiation dermatitis was significantly higher with StrataXRT. The rate of grade 2 dermatitis was 70% for StrataXRT and 50% for Mepitel. Patient preference was similar for Mepitel (40%) and StrataXRT (37.5%, 22.5% had no preference).
