Cannabidiol (CBD) oil is a popular cannabinoid used for potential health benefits without the intoxicating effects of marijuana. Despite the hype, there is little data supporting the benefits of CBD oil in cancer patients. In this randomized phase 2 trial of 144 patients with advanced cancer, cannabidiol (CBD) oil sadly did not significantly reduce symptom stress compared to placebo. In fact, numerically more patients responded to placebo (58%) than CBD (45%), and CBD had no impact on quality of life, depression, or anxiety. In other words, CBD oil provided no additional benefit to standard palliative care in patients with advanced cancer.
