A much-needed editorial pushes back against a recent modeling study claiming up to 5% of all U.S. cancers may result from CT imaging. Such projections, based entirely on rad bio theory–which we all know never fails to bear out in practice, eh hm– rather than clinical data risk alarming patients out of actual data-driven beneficial care. Take low-dose CT chest for lung cancer screening, for example, which prevents far more deaths than it could ever cause (even theoretically!). Ultimately, such conflation of theoretical dose models with realized clinical harms should never reach the level of peer-reviewed journal manuscript. | Moghanaki, JNCI 2025
