Expanding the role of radiation therapists into various time-sucking physician machinetime is all the buzz. This editorial rightly asks: Why are we looking to offload radiation oncologists’ tasks to radiation therapists when the current concern in the US workforce is an excess of the former and lack of the latter..? The authors “worry that such a shift would lead to a diminishment in quality and safety given the chasm in training and education between radiation oncologists and radiation therapists”…not to mention “lower professional reimbursement if codes are revised to reflect a change in physician labor.” But, hey, there’s always direct supervision to bolster physician demand. | Chhabra, Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys 2025
