Making headlines this week is a phase 1 study demonstrating the potential of mRNA vaccines primed to individual resected pancreatic tumors, much like we’ve seen for GBM. Across 16 enrollees receiving upfront surgery followed by mFOLOFIRINOX + atezolizumab + vaccine, half (n=8) were deemed “responders” after producing robust vaccine-induced CD8+ T cell clones. Most exciting, at a median follow-up surpassing 3 years, 6 of 8 responders remained without disease recurrence. This was compared to a median recurrence time of only 13 months among non-responders. These exciting results are looking to be replicated in a much larger follow-on phase 2 trial currently enrolling. | Sethna, Nature 2025
