Elective nodal irradiation is very common when treating SCC of the head and neck. How important is ENI when treating SCC of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses? This retrospective study took a look at 368 patients with clinically node negative sinonasal SCC treated between 2009 and 2021. The most common primary sites were the nasal cavity (41.6%) and maxillary sinus (33.4%), and most patients (75%) had primary resection before RT. A wide variety of treatment regimens were used, but all patients received either definitive or adjuvant RT to the primary site. Just over half (59%) received ENI. Given this study was retrospective, patients who received ENI were more likely to have advanced primaries, poor differentiation, and sinus or nasopharyngeal involvement. The rate of regional failure was significantly lower among those who received ENI (7.9% v 1.8%). At 5 years, the cumulative incidence rate of regional failure was 2.1% with ENI and 4.7% without. ENI did not significantly impact any other disease or survival outcomes. | Wang, Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys 2024
