Trastuzumab is often given in combination with chemotherapy for locally-advanced HER2+ (esophago)gastric cancers. Why stop there? A Chinese phase 2 trial randomized 42 patients receiving neoadjuvant trastuzumab + capecitabine and oxaliplatin chemotherapy to +/- the addition of atezolizumab for 3 pre-operative and 5 post-operative cycles. The primary endpoint of pathologic complete response rate was dramatically improved from 14% without to 38% with the addition of atezo.
