This retrospective study took a look back at 164 patients who received palliative radiation for symptomatic, locally advanced breast cancer. Most patients received treatment due to pain (87%), ulceration or fungating mass (76%), discharge (45%), or bleeding (41%). A quarter had received prior radiation. The most commonly used fractionation schemes were 45 Gy in 15 fractions (28%), 10 Gy in 1 fraction (13%), 25-30 Gy in 5-6 fractions (12%), and 30 Gy in 10 fractions (10%). Radiation provided effective palliation with a 63% rate of local control and median time to local progression of 20 months. | Jacomina, Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys 2024
