Headline: Adjuvant chemoimmunotherapy is the new standard for stage III deficient mismatch repair (dMMR) colon cancer.
The Study: The phase 3 ATOMIC trial randomized 712 patients with resected stage III dMMR colon cancer receiving adjuvant FOLFOX x 12 q2-week cycles (6 months total) to +/- the addition of atezo with each chemo cycle plus an additional 13 maintenance cycles (12 months total). The majority (88%) were proximal tumors while 54% were high-risk (T4 and/or N2) and 46% low-risk (T1-3N1). The primary endpoint of disease-free survival was at 3 years 77% with chemo and 86% with chemoimmunotherapy (HR 0.50).
