Taking sides.
This large Chinese retrospective look at 291 patients receiving definitive radiation for nasopharyngeal cancer with unilateral N3 disease boldly asks whether the contralateral uninvolved neck needs treatment. At a median follow-up of over 6.5 years out from bilateral (n-190) or unilateral (n=101) treatment, there were only two out of field recurrences in the contralateral neck, one from each cohort. There was no difference in any disease or survival outcomes.
