Here is a look at 76 patients undergoing D2 gastrectomy at a single large Indian hospital. All patients received adjuvant chemo (n=33) with 5FU / capecitabine plus oxaliplatin or cisplatin, with docetaxel from FLOT conspicuously missing, or adjuvant conventionally-fractionated radiation with concurrent 5FU. In this experience, those receiving chemoradiation achieved a significantly longer recurrence-free survival (83%) than those receiving chemo alone (63%). At the same time, overall survival was similar despite those receiving chemoration having much worse tumor characteristics. This led the authors to humbly question if there should be a radiation comeback for gastric cancer in the era of modern techniques such as IMRT that was exclusively used here. | Mitra, Adv Radiat Oncol 2023
