An NCDB analysis suggests traveling to a high-volume center versus staying local at a low-volume center for something as complex as an esophagectomy is associated with higher rates of R0 resection and improved survival at 1 and 5 years, particularly for stage III disease. The problem is that these studies often can’t account for the inherent selection bias for patients who have the ability to travel to higher volume centers. | Sakowitz, JAMA Surg 2024
